In a bid to strengthen its labour market, Alberta’s government is investing $23 million over three years as part of the Canada-Alberta Job Grant.
In a significant boost to help employers cover the costs of professional development within their organization, eligible employers will now have access to training grants, including training for in-demand skillsets, which will help them hire and train Alberta workers.
Employers can apply on behalf of future employees for eligible training costs, deciding on who gets training and what type of training may be required.
The grants are non-repayable funds meant to purchase third-party business training programs. The Alberta Government will contribute two-thirds of costs, to a maximum of $10,000 per trainee per fiscal year; businesses can access up to $300,000 per fiscal year. Organizations are expected to contribute a minimum of one-third of total training costs for existing employees.
